Names, Names, Names...

With 13.5 weeks till due date we are beginning to become consumed with baby Steffen.  Seems like our poor little child got put on the back burner pretty much till January because of our crazy 2012 schedule.  People keep asking me how I'm feeling & I keep saying, "Great!"  I guess that's not entirely true.  Physically, yes, I feel great, praise the Lord, but emotionally I'm starting to get slightly overwhelmed.  There's the baby room to finish (to re-finish our wood floors or carpet...that is the question!), the baby furniture to finish (paint or stain), a baby registry to complete & a baby name to pick out!  That's a lot to be accomplished in 13.5 weeks & it can freak me out if I think about it too much.  "One day at a time" has been my motto!

Thanks to our auctioneer at work, I have been pouring over thousands (and I do mean thousands!) of names over the past week.  Don't worry I won't bore you with a description of what exactly I'm doing.  The one exciting thing about this task is that it has opened my eyes to all kinds of options for names.  Every day I text Ryan with at least one new name to think about.  I also text him the names that I come across that make me think...never in a million years!  I'd like to share of few of the names I've come across just today because honestly, some of them made me chuckle!  (Please do not take offense if you like some of these names.  I may consider you slightly senseless but that is only my opinion!)

Boys
OBBIE   (yes I will be in the ob ward soon!)
WEISELL  (Newsies anyone?)
CENITH    (I got nothin on that one)
DEAR     (What pet name can we use now?)
PARTION  (sounds like that thing in the middle of a 4 lane highway)
LAMOINE  (sounds awfully close to the capital of Iowa to me)

Girls
NORMA  (I hope we have a norma child)
FLORA   (I can just hear the nickname now...Flora the Explora)
JOI    (I'm hoping this is pronounced like Joy)
RISE  (& shine...it's gonna be a great day!)
LEQUITA  (Ryan, Jamy & Lequita...eh, not doin it for me)
DORRANCE  (Hmm...is this one of those gender neutral names?)

Oh, and in case you haven't talked to us recently, we'd like to inform you all that YES we did look inside that sealed envelope from the hospital.  We put it in a box, wrapped it up & opened it on Christmas day!  However, we are keeping this little bit of knowledge to ourselves so don't even think about tricking us into telling!

  1. Whew! I got a little nervous when I saw you were listing names you DIDN'T like. I just KNEW one of them would be on our "list". Fortunately none of them are :) However, if I HAD to pick one of them, it would probably be Flora :)

I've seen people ask for name ideas on their blog before and gotten great response. It's an idea if you get down to the wire and still don't have one!

  4. I vote for Weisell, just think I can buy Newsies "stuff" for the little one for his birthday every every year... I realize I just voted for a boy name, but my gut is telling me its a girl...or maybe that feeling in my gut is actually just me having another girl(chances are pretty good on that one), oh boy now I am really confused !!

  6. My grandpa always said I should use the name Purcifull Octavia, and said it would work for either a boy or girl...yep, he would say anything to get a laugh :) I won't be offended if you steal it from me..hehe!

  7. Valtameri is still an option! Just beat Travis too it! I'm not a hundred percent sure how to spell it but I would imagine you could do it many different ways!
